So how to decide where to start ? You have to answer a few questions to get going. Does it lose more or less if the system is on or off ? If it is no the same both ways. then you start with structures. If it is yes, I lose more when the filter system is running, start with plumbing / water system. Swimming pool repairs fall into two groups... there is what I call patch and mend, this simply means all work is temporary not expected to last a very long while. Then there is repair work that ment to be permanent. Below I will use the two terms patch or repair as needed. Structure Gunite or concrete, plastered or painted or vinyl liner. Look for cracks or holes everywhere. Around all fittings, tile and skimmers and light. when you find a suspect area squirt a little food coloring to test. It should draw the dye in the crack or hole if leaking. (pool should be turned off and water as still as possible.) A large opening that has a smaller hole deeper in the crack will not draw the dye. Should you find a suspect area You have some choices to make. Ahh... the old patch or repair... < Plumbing water system You have to look for the obvious, any wet spots anywhere ?. In the yard or around the filter system ? Just need help adding water? This will do the job.
